Research on effective schools indicates that the Head of School is the key individual in improving schools and student learning. Effective Montessori schools have visionary educational leaders knowledgeable about Montessori instruction and experienced with management, leaders who inspire the work of teachers in the classroom, who affect the lives of students, and who lead the reform and redesign of school communities. The Institute of Montessori Education’s newly formed Head of School network will commit to serving the needs of all Montessori Heads of Schools in the Houston common area.

Head of School Network Goals:

1. to promote Montessori schools as learning communities that provide excellent learning opportunities for all children;
2. to advance superior professional standards of practice for Montessori Heads of Schools;
3. to provide high quality professional development experiences, leadership training, information and support based on their common and unique professional development needs;
4. to maintain a positive impact on legislators, policy makers, communities and other stakeholders to improve the quality of early childhood education;
5. to provide ample opportunities for networking, collegiality, and community.

• Stay “in the loop: on current events and issues; read and review periodic print and electronic news relevant for school administration.
• Advance as a professional; take advantage of professional development seminars, round table chats, workshops and trainings designed specifically for Heads of Schools.
